director general david petraeus continues this morning on capitol hill. petraeus was scheduled to testify before congress on the deadly attacks in libya, and now some lawmakers are questioning the timing of his resignation. marla tellez is in the newsroom with what is next. >> reporter: good morning. general petraeus was expected to testify this thursday about the attack in benghazi that killed four americans. that might not happen now. he is -- top lawmakers say they want to hear directly from petraeus. petraeus, nbc news has learned, conducted his own investigation into that deadly september attack. senator dianne feinstein, who heads up the senate select committee on intelligence is among those saying the general could be called to testify at a later date since he may be the only one who has the answers to the countless questions that continue to swirl about benghazi. >> five attacks during the year. one prior attack on the consulate itself. the question i have is, you know, why wasn't something done about it? >> reporter: if general petraeus is called to testify, he would do so as a c
